Hope everyone enjoyed the Monday holiday!  People seemed to return on Tuesday refreshed and ready to go.  Tuesday morning we went through an interactive presentation on money and budgeting, including topics like how money is used in our society, receiving money vs. earning money, products vs. services, and how to increase one’s own earning power.  We did some review in the afternoon and created a practice budget together.  Nate and Patrick took a walk with Britney while Jackie, Evan, Jim an...

Monday morning we talked about building community connections.  We discussed Nextsteppers’ interests/hobbies/activities and those they would like to try.  We also discussed any interest in social, spiritual or exercise groups, as well as volunteer opportunities.  We visited a number of internet resources with more information on local community opportunities.  Continuing our discussion of voting, we watched the Senate Candidates’ Debate.  We held our own mock Nextstep Election and also co...

It’s been a good few days.  Monday morning we practiced our social/conversation skills by having a group discussion about everyones’ weekend and coming up with questions to show interest in one another.  We posed the question ‘How can I be more independent here at Nextstep’ and had significant discussion following.  Cooking Fridays came up, and Kristine and Rory are going to try to take a step back in terms of grocery shopping and cooking.  We’ll go back to some recipes that people ...
